Re: Showcase your Investigator

They are all old boats now with lots of problems, fortunately they can all be sorted out with a bit of hard work. Hang in there mate.

Re: Sailing in winter.

I’ve got a pair of cheap eBay waders I wear to help retrieve the boat. I can walk down the trailer onto the mudguards if I’m careful but it’s a lot easier (and safer) to just walk into the water to snap the winch hook on. Especially at the Bayview park boat ramp where people in their fishing boats l...

Re: Mainsail

Hi Dan, Your main is pretty important mate, I wouldn’t be cutting corners. It’s where all your horsepower and control is - if it’s not performing your boat certainly won’t. Shop around sail makers, see how much a good repair (actual repair not a bit of tape) versus a new one costs. Unfortunately it’...

Re: Centre board use

Hi Luke. The tiller should tell you mate. Pulling the centreboard up a bit obviously moves it towards the stern as it is folding up which will move your "CLR" ( centre of Lateral resistance) aft. The balance of the boat is a relationship between the CLR and the centre of effort of your sa...

Re: Bilge Pump Outlet

I silicone some flat sections of stainless to the bottom of my pumps and float switches to weigh them down. Having kids on the boat a lot I tend to need to replace a pump pretty often as the switch them on while playing inside the boat and the pumps burnout running dry for hours while I’m focused on...

Re: Rolling boom reefing with vang

Ozzie - my rolling mechanism was playing up a few years ago. I drilled the rivets out and pulled the whole end off. You’ll find a dirty big spring in there and not much else other than muck and corrosion. Clean it up and cover it in grease she will be good as new. I’ve got some pictures buried in my...

Re: Ramp Reports

Not sure if anyone ever uses the Bayview Park boat ramp in Concord (end of Burwood Rd) I see lots of TS down there but I’ve never seen another investigator? Either way if you plan on using this ramp make sure you get there before 5am, it used to be a great ramp, never too busy but unfortunately now ...

Re: Mast configuration

I’ve played around with my rig a bit recently and found a small amount of rake to aft has balanced the helm upwind (with an amount of back stay pulled on) and goes a lot faster. We were in a pretty serious line of wind probably 15knts + with no reef and I was easily steering the boat through the lif...

Re: Can i have a look ?

Can’t help you with a look in as I’m in Sydney but I can tell you I am 6 foot and my big brother (literally) is 6’7 and we have no trouble getting around in our Investigator. No be honest your not going to find a better trailer sailer if your a big guy as almost all have big centreboard cases taking...

Re: Law and Disorder 12/06/2021

The mast crutch is exactly like the one I “used” to have made out of stainless and it hooked over the pulpit, easily removed with the mast up. Unfortunately it’s now on the bottom of parramatta river after a forgetful moment so the new one is fixed to the pulpit with u-bolts :) it’s made of stainles...
