Re: Tides and currents

Better post this before people go off and get a tide clock or watch. They DONT WORK if your tide is "Diurnal tide" (one high and one low per day). see the map below. Looks like the SW coast of Australia is this type of tide (around PERTH's coasts, dont buy a simple tide clock/watch here) (...

Re: Tides and currents

I was trying to find this Casio Tide watch, the WS1300.. An even earlier model, still on last years runouts at bargain prices. But all stores up here had sold out.. It's less robust than a G-shock but has a far longer battery life of 10 years. It's rated to 100m depth (Gshocks 200m). It's got a bigg...

Re: Tides and currents

It's already proving to be very useful, even just best time to walk the dog, go kayaking or swim at the beach. It doesn't have anything like navionics data Ian, its got no bluetooth or highest tech. so the tide readout isn't perfect (say +/- 30 mins.)To set the tide on this class of tide watch the 3...

Tides and currents

I've found my Tide Clock to be most useful. Set to the local boat ramp, it shows the state of the tide at a glance. No need to look up tables or jump on the internet. There are plenty of different types on ebay, but I chose the simplest. Thought this might be an interesting topic, "Time and ti...

Re: Ramp Reports

Found a good website with public boat ramp locations around Australia. https://coastalventures.com.au/boat-ramps/australia/ (it's a boat hire company in Sth Qld) Might be handy for scouting out new ramps to launch from. Public floating pontoons and public jetties are also marked. Generally ramps wit...

I563 in Ravenshoe, Qld

Spotted this I563 on FB awhile back, up on the Atherton Tablelands, NQld She may have flown under the search engine radar, (posted 22 weeks ago) as they call her "Endeavor 20", definitely an Investigator 563 in pics, sail number 73 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/674404381424147/...

Re: General interest Links and Videos

Sounds like you were careful in croc country top end Ozzie. Follow up correction on Rollingstone croc, the drone spotted three large crocs 3-4m long in Rollingstone ck estuary (near fishermans landing/free camp grounds) one was 3m and was possibly the croc in the fresh swimming hole which returned t...

Re: General interest Links and Videos

Years ago my daughter got a job in Ingham in Nth Qld. I took her up and stayed with her for a week before coming home. We bought some fishing gear for her and went out to the coast a couple of times. A few weeks after she arrived it flooded and there we’re supposed to be reports of crocs in the Mai...

Re: USEFUL STUFFS

Always keep a roll of cloth tape onboard Ozzie, it's amazing what it can repair when out. Patch a hole, hold something in place, wrap some wires together.. Another useful thing. Black Polyethylene pipe. polypipe 19mm lowdens 25d 2024-02-28 082341.png It also has many potential uses (apart from irrig...

Re: Members in FNQ

All good Ozzie, still a fair few piles of branches etc on the roadsides for collection. Fine weather again so shaggy lawns and growth getting cut back to normal. Bought a couple of DC fans, 12v and 18v. It brings the DC fan collection to 3 units. They might come in handy if power goes out next time ...
