Re: Parking fees

Sorry to hear about the councils ramps fees in some tourist spots of NSW Ozzie, It hasn't happened in Qld as yet thankfully, and hope it stays that way. (Tsv paid parking is only in the CBD area). Was searching for "ramp fees qld" and digressing a bit here, found out from Transport and mai...

Re: solar panels and charge controllers

Remember those 12v flouros, LED is 2 tech leaps ahead of my 1980's bulb lights. (Bulbs can also act as small electric heaters..) Replaced my 102ah deepcycle battery (installed oct 2019) nearly 5 years old. (Keeping it in shed, Its still ok for power blackouts at home, for fans and devices) The new m...

Re: solar panels and charge controllers

I think it’s probably a good plan to keep the set up basic Andrew. Solar is great stuff but if you set up big panels particularly up high you are creating a lot of windage which while most of the time won’t matter, in a big blow could cause a lot of issues. I note many of the vessels that pull up a...

Re: solar panels and charge controllers

Cheers, Hope the LED's power draw is less, guessing 3 Watts? Mounted the lights on 10 or 12mm thick plywood circles glued on by silastic sealant. My method. Put light on ply, pencil around light edge, jigsaw (on outside of line, cut exit groove for wire in ply with hand saw, sand, paint, screw light...

Re: solar panels and charge controllers

The new LED dome lights are good. (new photos on the way)

(Had to move the forepeak dome light from centerline to the side, as not enough headroom. )

Re: solar panels and charge controllers

rps20240817_090436.jpg The "load" terminals on the controller? are vacant. from utubers seems like it has a "cutout" function, to prevent further batt draw if the critical low voltage is reached..eg 50% 12.0v batt? Guessing that non-essentials could be wired through this. To sav...

Re: solar panels and charge controllers

Thanks Luke, i reckon solar quotes would be good for setting up a house with 5-10 kilowatt systems and getting the best installers. It's definitely worthwhile. I'm trying to keep Teria's DIY system as small as needed. It's toward the low end of the RV/4WD range of gear. Today my watt meter said the ...

Re: solar panels and charge controllers

Maybe take it into a marine mech to check it? One main point from Hugh's videos (English country life). Always connect the charge controller to the battery first. (then connect the panel input later, protects the controller). Here is Hugh's part1 (of 5 in series) explaining small scale solar, it rea...

Re: solar panels and charge controllers

Will try that, watching some beginners 12v solar setup videos (English country life) today.(should've been done before starting!) Hugh explains it well, from simple to more advanced in a series. He pointed out that mono-crystaline panels are more efficient than polycrystalline, and "PERC" ...

Re: solar panels and charge controllers

Yes, corrosion could be a problem down the track, so i've mounted the controller deep inside the louvred electrical cabinet. No salt spray ever gets in there. The instructions said the MPPT controller should have air ventilation for cooling but with only 40W/2.2A should be cool enough for a 20A unit...
