Andrew, my boat makes between 4 and 5 knots when the breeze is up. Your planning problem is calculating distance made good as this depends mostly on the direction of the wind. When tacking, you sail at a good rate of knots but not make a lot of headway.
Have fun on the water.

Welcome Kelpie. Yes, 1976 sounds about right. You live in a great area to sail an Investigator.
I haven't come across number #16 before, so one more to add to the list. #002 is pictured in one of the articles on this forum.

One of the reviews of the Investigator in the Magazine Library was written by Geoff Toghill. He wrote more than 60 books about all things nautical. Geoff died in 1975 aged 85.

Re: The List
Andrew, Just love a good (Investigator) mystery, but I think, in this case, that the two names are just a co-incidence. My listing comes from an 2014 advertisement for this boat. There were other photos in the original ad with the boat rego clearly visible in two of them. The NSW trailer rego is als...

Re: The List
Attached is an updated list of Investigators. The list was compiled from my own records of the boats that I have come across from advertisements, this forum, Facebook or google images over the last twenty or so years. I have listed boats where I have found either the sail number, name or registratio...

Summer Reading Suggestions
I thought that it might be interesting to start a thread listing the books that members have found interesting regarding all things nautical. I recently finished reading: The Great Windships: How Sailing Ships Made the Modern World by Brian Stafford. It covers the history of sail in a very entertain...

Re: Also 1985 i563 in Queensland $3800
This is Palamida, Robert Burrell's old boat. Robert was very active on this forum and posted several youtube videos. The Investigator looks like it has been moored for a few years but is otherwise in good shape. The price seems very reasonable. My records show this as boat No 5. Runaway bay is just ...
