Re: Original Investigator Moulds for Sale

I spoke to seller (John) to ask if he would consider selling the new sails separately. He wasn’t willing to separate the items but he did tell me some of the history behind the moulds and the sale. The moulds are original and he said that they have been used to manufacture all the Investigators. At ...

Re: Original Investigator Moulds for Sale

I notice that the moulds, hull and deck are still up for sale. There is a set of sails included in the deal. It would be interesting to see what sail number was on the main. Below is some of the text from the advertisement. INVESTIGATOR TRAILABLE YACHT MOULDS COMES WITH A NEW HULL AND DECK, MAST AND...

Re: Cockpit Hatch Hinge

I don't have to worry about sealing the hatch from rain now that the boat is "moored" in my shed. I opted, instead of the seal, to use a simple rubber extrusion around the inside lip of the hatch well. It will stop small amounts of water leaking in but the main purpose is to cushion the ha...

Cockpit Hatch Hinge

Some years back, I replaced the seal under the cockpit hatch with a thicker seal in an attempt to keep rainwater from draining into the hatch. This was not very successful as the hatch still leaked when it rained. The thicker seal did put more strain on the hinges and eventually one of them broke. A...

Re: Trailer re-build and re-design

Your trailer is a different design to mine. You already have a drop axle to compensate for the larger wheel diameter. The angles in cross members will also allow your boat to sit lower than if it had straight ones. I think your design is better. The dimensions of my trailer are: drawbar = 1800mm Fra...

I'd like to watch him back the boat down the boat ramp.

Re: Trailer re-build and re-design

I'm also doing a bit of maintenance on my trailer at the moment. Mine is a bit like Grandpa's axe, and I've replaced just about all of it over the years. My philosophy has been to replace like with like, so what you see in the photos below is pretty much how they were originally built. My recommenda...

Re: Retirement Project

With the woodwork out of the way, I tacked the list of small jobs that I had compiled. I replaced the halyards with Spectra, installed a depth sounder, fibre glassed and flow coated in a few places, removed and inspected the chain plates for corrosion (all good), and did many other minor jobs which ...

Re: World's biggest cleat

I talked to the owner today regarding the boat. He is "Flip", a member of the forum. The boat is number 97 and is called Avna. Flip has just finished refurbishing it, but is selling it has he thinks two boats (he has a larger yacht) is a bit much. The boat is in good condition as can be se...
