I have found the work needed never ends.. I think it's worth just putting it in the water as she can float, and sail her as soon as the mast can stay upright

I have had the sealed compartments of my investigator cut open for storage. The glass there is not very thick. I would imagine if it was due from a pressure change, the inside of the compartment would dent in and collapse as opposed to the hull which is a lot stronger.

How do you get adequate tension on the shrouds with these types of attachments?

Hmmm if you have water ingress near the ballast, I would suggest it needs further investigation. (No pun intended) Ballast is separate from the hull. I would inspect the outside of the hull for any damage. If you still believe there is water leaking, I would consider partly filling the bilge with dy...

Those would be the lifting points for the lead ballast. Would have been used to install the ballast. No need to fix them- just don't use them if you ever remove the ballast!

I like the idea of being able to attach tangs to the stainless step, however I am glad my cast aluminum one broke so easily as it prevented any damage to the mast and cabin top.
I'm not sure that stainless would of had the same end result

So today I went out to the investigator- to find my mast in the water! Broken shroud and rig splayed everywhere!
However, I am lucky in that the only damage appears to be a broken mast step- which brings me to the point of my post...
Does anybody know where I can source another mast step from?

Steve I got it from ullrich aluminum in princes hwy Springvale. They had to bring it in from NZ so it took about 3 weeks. So after a fair bit of winching and levering, i finally got my toe rail fitted. Not the easiest job in the world, but i think it came out ok.
